スターリングラード攻防戦。実に200万近くの軍勢同士が衝突したうえ一般市民も犠牲に。25万ものドイツ兵士が捕虜となった。 〔Battle of Stalingrad. Almost 2 million troops from both side and civilians were killed or wounded. 250,000 German troops were captured.〕

イギリス人としてはソンムを推したいとこだが、やはりヴェルダンかな。スターリングラードとクルスクも壮絶なほどの人命損耗であった。ちなみに死に追いやった人間の数はヒトラーもしくはスターリンが最大だろうと思っておったわけですが、どうやら毛主席がダントツのようですな。中国が世界最大の経済大国になった暁（2050年頃）にはさて何が起こるのでしょうな。 〔As a Brit then I would say the Somme but Verdun was I think - Stalingrad and Kursk were also a terrible loss of life - I must say I thought Hitler or Stalin killed most people but I have been told it was Chairman Mao - so what happens when China takes over (about 2050) as the largest economy in the world ?〕

既に秀逸な回答が出てはいるが…質問に答えると、上のほうでも指摘されているように、人類史上未曾有の戦死者を出したのが先の2度の世界大戦であった…凄惨というのはおぞましさ度合いではなく死傷者数を指すものと考えてよろしいか。であるとすれば、ええいかにも、ソンムとスターリングラードが筆頭候補になりましょう… 〔RMC's answer is precious... but to answer your question, as others have specified here, never were so many numbers lost in single battles as in the World Wars... by bloody we just naturally assume you don't mean the general gore but rather the number of casualties, in which case, yeah, Somme and Stalingrad are both a good bet...〕
