べつに総格を叩いたりするつもりはない。ただこれら競技のファンが互いに他方を受け入れない姿勢でありがちなのはどうしてなのかと。 〔This is not suppose to be against MMA, but why do you think so many people are fans of one and not the other.〕

そうは思えませんね。なんだかんだでボクシングは総格の重要な部品の1つになってますし。 〔I don't think one can replace the other, after all Boxing is an important part of MMA.〕

全くそうは思えませんな。観客動員数からしても、メディア報道の規模からしても、飛び交う金の大きさからしても、相変わらずボクシングに軍配ですわ。 〔I don't think that MMA has replaced boxing in popularity at all. Boxing still is the bigger draw spectator wise, has much more media coverage and much more money in it.〕

当方ボクシング信者ですが、正直言って総格はあまり好きではありません。ボクシングを受けつけない総格ファンというのもいらっしゃるはず。一種のライバル的なものなんでしょうか。どうなんでしょうね。 〔To be honest, I consider myself a boxing purist. I don't really like watching MMA, and I'm sure some MMA fans don't like watching boxing. It could be down to the rivalry or summat, I don't know〕

だと思います。理由は2つ。古来からのスポーツよりこういうのに興味を抱きがちな若年世代や中年世代を総格は引き寄せています。年配世代はわりと古来のスポーツを好むものです。まさしくボクシングがその1つですね。そして若年世代の心を射止めることができているボクサーはごくわずか。もう20年も30年もやっていらっしゃるデュラン、レナード、ハーンズ、ハグラーなどがそれにあたりますが。さらに言えば、シウバさんのような注目度の高い総格家がボクシングに転向するなどといったことがあれば、そしてこうした人材を生み出すことのできる資金的土壌が今以上の大きさになれば、ボクシングの人気を再沸騰させることもあるいは可能かもしれません。総格におけるシウバさんのファイトマネーは1試合あたり50万ドルほどと思われますが、もしボクシングをなさっていたとしたらこれを結構なレベルで上回る額を得ていらっしゃったことでしょう。見るからに現状に退屈なさってますよね。さらなる大金、そしてボクシングと総格の両世界王者への挑戦。彼をやる気にさせるのはこれでしょう。本人さんも検討なさってらっしゃることですしね。 〔For a couple of reasons I think. Age wise and demographically MMA appeals to the younger and middle age generations who you have more people watching or viewing as well as taking an interest in than more traditional sports. The older generation favors the older more traditional sports which boxing is one of. At the same time there have been very few boxers that have captured the interest and hearts of the younger generation in boxing like what you had twenty and thirty years ago with guys like Duran, Leonard, Hearns, Hagler to name just a few. I will add that if you had a MMA fighter of some note like Silva change over to boxing and the larger money that it still can generate for fighters like him then that could re-spark some interest in boxing. I half expect him to given the fact that in MMA he fights for a half mil but if he was to fight in boxing he would get considerably more. He is obviously bored where he is now and I think the greater money and the challenge to be the first fighter to hold a world champion in both boxing and MMA is luring him and he is considering it.〕

Over the last ten years a lot of boxing gyms have closed and inner city youth look to other sports like basketball, football and baseball now as a way to better things. This along with MMA is drawing those that want to fight away from boxing. So I think MMA has replaced boxing in popularity but not in money or revenue quite yet. Give it time though as I think it will unless you have someone like Silva make the transition and even then it will only delay its decline temporarily I think.〕

多彩な攻撃手段にテイクダウン。不測の事態が遥かに多く起こりうる。総格ファンを惹きつける理由はこれだと思うんですよね。ボクシングも相当面白くはあるんだけども、やはり及ばない。自分は両方好きですけどね。 〔I think people that are mma fans like it so much beacuse you don't really know what to expect theres a lot more happening, different strikes and take downs. いやそれはないと思いますが。でも見てて面白い試合はUFCのほうが多いと思いますね。ボクシングならタイソンとかレノックス・ルイス、フランク・ブルーノなんかが現役だった頃のを見てましたけど、今のボクシングに関しては、残念ながら少々つまらなく感じてしまいます。その理由は単純ですが、予定調和だからですな！しかもつまらぬうえに目玉の一戦なんかになるとテレビ観戦にやたらと金が掛かってしまうというね。 〔No I don't think so. But I do think that the UFC has made fighting more interesting to watch. I used to watch boxing in the days when Tyson, Lenox Lewis & Frank Bruno were boxing. Unfortunately I find boxing now a days getting a bit boring for the simple reason that nothing much happens for ages! Not only is it getting a bit boring but a lot of the big bouts you have to pay lots of money to view it on TV.〕
ボクシングと違って結果が予測できないUFCは実に遥かに面白い。ただまぁボクシングにもそれなりの良さはありますし、UFCもボクシングも両方見ますという人も結構いらっしゃるはず。今のボクシングは盛り上がりに欠けてしまっているという、まぁそれだけのことですわ。 〔The UFC is much more entertaining as the out come is not so predictable as it is in boxing, however boxing does still hold it's own and i'm sure there are many people who watch the UFC will watch boxing too.
