塩水でなく淡水のものだけを湖と呼ぶのであれば答えはロシアのバイカル湖になり、陸地にまるまる包囲されているものの海と呼ばれ更には塩水を湛えていてもよろしいのであれば答えはカスピ海になるでしょう。陸地やなんかに区切られていない一箇所の淡水の総量で（要するに点在型ではなく）というのであれば答えは南極になるでしょう。〔Do you mean the biggest thats called a lake and is fresh water not saltwater that would be Lake Bailkal in Russia or the biggest that is completely surrounded by land but called a sea and has saltwater that would be the Caspian Sea but if you want the largest simply by the total amount of fresh water in one place that is not separated by land or anything else (ie not lots of little lakes) then that would be Antartica〕
