20世紀もなかばの頃の米国に産声を上げ、やがては世界にあまりに名高き男性誌へと成長するに至った「プレイボーイ」。そしてこの雑誌の内に活躍する特別な女性モデル“プレイメイト”。

プレイボーイ買ってるのって白人ばっかなの？それで白人女子ばっかモデルに選んでるってこと？あたしが男だったとしたら、毎度毎度おんなじ金髪女子ばっか見てても飽きるだけだと思うんだけど。冗談抜きで区別つかないし。あの「ザ・ガールズ・ネクスト・ドア」見ててもさ、みんな同じに見えるんだけど。 〔Are most of the guys who order playboy white? それはマーケティングでしょう。つまり販売ターゲットが白人層（すなわち米国住民の80%超を占める）なので、モデルも白人女性ばかりになると。そういうことですよ。 〔It sounds like marketing to me, they want to sell magazines to the White Demographic (which makes up about 80 percent of the population of the US) so they have mostly white women in the magazine〕
