モントリオールのエクスポズも成功とはほど遠かったです。最初は順調だったんですけど、厚いファン層の形成にまでは結局至りませんでした。そういえばナッツ対メッツの試合を見に来られていたエクスポズファンの方々とNYでお会いしたことがありますが、やはりモントリオールで野球が盛り上がることはおそらくなかろうという展望を持っておいででしたね。カナディアンズとアルエッツほどの注目の的になることはまずありえんでしょう。 〔The Expos never really made it in Montreal, they started off OK, but never really developed a loyal fan base. I've met some Expos fans in NY when they come down to see the Nats play the Mets, and they basically feel that baseball wasn't going to make it in Montreal, it just never got the attention that the Canadiens and Alouettes got.〕

そういうのって野球に限らず人によるんじゃないでしょうか。うちの義兄弟とその家族が全員カナダ人ですが、野球はもちろんあらゆるスポーツを愛好されておりますよ。国は関係ないでしょう・・・個人の好みの問題なのではないかと。 〔i think just as anything else it depends on the person. 人気絶頂の頃のジェイズは毎年4百万人の観客を集めてました。ところがそうした時期に阿呆のトロント人ときたらジェイズはもういい時代遅れだと判断しおった。まあしだいに復活してったんですがね。カナダで別のプロチームといえばバンクーバーのが唯一。あのマイナーリーグのやつですね。 〔The Jays in their heyday drew over 4 million fans each year. At the moment, the silly Torontonians have decided the Jays aren't cool or trendy enough for them, but eventually that will swing back. Vancouver has the only other professional team in Canada, the short season rookie-ball team for the A's.〕
ただ自分はブルージェイズは全くもって好きではございません。トロント関連のものがとにかく嫌いなわけなんですわ（もう威張り腐ってひどい町です）。つまりジェイズも嫌いというね。とはいえ感情論抜きで見てみると、やはりトロント含めた国内全土に強固なファン層を有しているのがジェイズですな。 〔However, I don't like the Blue Jays at all. まあね、ブルージェイズがガン無視されてるかっていったら現実んなこたないわけですけど、なんだかんだでやっぱしホッケーとフットボールですよね。ただトロントは行ったことないけどどうなんでしょうね。うちら西部地方の人間よりは多いかもしれませんよね野球好きｗ 〔uh, well i would'nt say we dont care about The Blue Jays at all, but we dont care as much as Hockey and Football. ブルージェイズはカナダ全土でわりと人気だったりしますね。カナダ野球は悲惨なもんです。かつてはメジャーリーグのチーム2つに加えてAAAとAAのチームも全国津々浦々にあったんですがね。今やメジャーリーグのチームが1つとバンクーバーにショートシーズンのルーキーリーグチームが1つあるだけ。 〔I have gathered that the Blue Jays are pretty popular throughout most of Canada. もちろん人気は存在してます。ごく少数ながらメジャーの選手も、ジャスティン・モルノー、ジョーイ・ボット、ジェイソン・ベイ、ほか、いらっしゃいます。モントリオールの住民さんは今も厳しい見解をお持ちなんでしょうけど、とにかくいずれにしても、このスポーツの魅力に抗うことなど不可能。 〔Of course they love baseball.
