人気生徒ってジョックとチアリーダーのことだよね。演劇系は該当しないじゃん。 〔jocks and cheer leaders i guess are considered popular. The theater students are not.〕

学校においてアーティスティック系は「ジョック」系とは違って人気生徒には該当しませんからね。しかし面白いと思ったのは、学校の人気生徒が必ずしも最上位の成功人生を歩むわけではないということ。ジョックは年を重ねて肥満体になり過去を引きずってばかり。チアリーダーも不遇な日々で酒浸りの人生。（ちなみにこれはうちのクラスの同窓会の状況）一番成功を収めていたのは最ギーク層の人たちでした。 〔In school, the artistic types aren't the popular ones like the "jock" types are. But what I found interesting was that the popular ones in school did not go on to have the most successful lives. The Jocks were old, fat and living in the past and many of the cheer leaders were unhappy and drank too much. (This was at my class reunion) The biggest geeks in school were the most successful.〕

ひとつのことに熱中するには、他者からの拒絶経験がもたらすエネルギーが必要になってくる。芸能人が他者から好かれることに執着するのは、すなわち他者から好かれることなき高校時代を送ったからなのです。その気持ちは自分もよくわかる。中3まではダサダサだった。それで自分磨きにひたすら注力。大手デパートでモデルの仕事をするまでになった。そしたらみんなから好かれるようになった。こういうタイプの人間にとって、他者から好かれないという状況は苦痛そのものなわけなのです。 〔Because people need the energy that comes from rejection to strive to be "all that." Celebrities are obsessed with being likable because they were not liked in high school. I know the feeling because I was a great dork in 9th grade and so I focused on improving myself to where I got to do modeling for a major department store. Then everyone liked me. あんねそもそも不人気な人間がほとんどなんだよ。人気者ってのはごく少数。つまり芸能人も同じってことでしょ。たしかバネッサ・ハジェンズは高校でもわりと人気者だと思うけど。人気不良生徒たちとつるんでるし。 〔Well, most of the people are unpopular too. It's only a minority that are popular.
